Format guide

Cricket's three formats — T20, ODI and Test — each have a different style of betting. T20 matches are the fastest, finishing in just a few hours, so live markets see the most frequent over-by-over odds movement. ODI's fifty-over span gives bettors more time to analyse the match. In Test cricket, pitch conditions and weather play a big role across five days of play.

Bangladesh's most popular tournament, BPL, generates enormous excitement every season. Alongside it, IPL, the ICC T20 World Cup and international series featuring the Tigers are also favourites among bettors. At vip ta, markets for all these competitions are open both pre-match and live.

Cricket betting differs somewhat from football and other sports: individual performance markets (top batsman, top bowler) are far more common here, and there is no draw in limited-overs matches. Handicap and Asian line markets are more common in football, while run-line and wicket markets are more common in cricket.

Popular betting markets — what each type means

Easiest

Match Winner

Which of the two teams will win — this is the simplest market. Pick team A or team B. There is no draw in T20 or ODI, so the result is clear-cut.

Coin toss

Toss Market

Which team will win the toss before the match starts — this market has two equally likely outcomes. Many bettors play the toss market for fun, as it is entirely a matter of chance.

Individual performance

Top Batsman

Which batter from which team will score the most runs in the match — this market requires analysis of each team's batting lineup. Pitch conditions and batting order matter.

Run line

Total Runs Over/Under

Whether the total runs in the match will be above or below a set number — this market depends on the pitch type, weather and the teams' batting strength. Example: whether total runs will exceed 300.

Bowling market

Top Bowler

Which bowler will take the most wickets — this market requires thinking about whether spin or pace suits the pitch. Dew and pitch moisture affect a bowler's advantage.

Multiple markets

Multi Bet

Combining multiple selections into one bet creates a multi bet. Every selection must win for the full bet to succeed. Example: if team A, team B and team A win across three matches, the three odds are multiplied together to give the total return.

How to read odds — decimal, fractional and American

Cricket betting odds can be displayed in three formats. All three express the same probability — only the way they are written differs. The two examples below will make the whole thing clear.

Format Team A (winner) Meaning
Decimal 2.25 Total return ৳1,125 on a ৳500 bet
Fractional 5/4 ৳5 profit for every ৳4 staked
American +125 ৳125 profit on ৳100

Example 1 — betting on team A to win (not the favourite):

Decimal 2.25 = fractional 5/4 = American +125. A ৳500 bet on team A wins and the total return is ৳1,125 (৳625 profit + original ৳500 stake). If team A loses, ৳500 is gone.

Example 2 — betting on team B to win (the favourite):

Decimal 1.80 = fractional 4/5 = American -125. A minus sign in American format shows how much you need to stake to win ৳100. A ৳500 bet on team B wins and the total return is ৳900 (৳400 profit).

vip ta generally shows decimal odds because they are easier to calculate. Log in to vip ta Bet's betting page to see live odds for any match.

When a wicket falls, the odds shift — live in-play betting

While the match is on, odds change with every ball — that is the biggest draw of live betting. A big wicket causes the batting team's odds to lengthen and the fielding team's odds to shorten. In the same way, a high-scoring over increases the batting team's chances and their odds tighten.

In the powerplay of a T20 match, a fast start or 2–3 quick wickets can change the whole direction of the game. In in-play betting, these moments create new market opportunities — such as at what score the next wicket will fall, or how many runs will be scored in a specific over.

In live betting, keep in mind that odds move very quickly, so there is little time to decide. Read the situation carefully before placing a bet rather than rushing. Betting is always for entertainment — follow responsible gaming guidelines.

Football and other sports — what else is available alongside cricket

Alongside cricket, football betting is also available at vip ta. In football, match winner, handicap, total goals over/under and both teams to score are the more common markets. Where cricket has more individual performance markets, football has more team result markets and specific half-time/full-time outcome markets.

In football a draw is possible, so the match winner market has three options — team A wins, draw, or team B wins. In limited-overs cricket there is no draw, so the two-option structure produces a different odds setup.

Kabaddi, volleyball and other sports markets may be available at vip ta, but in Bangladesh cricket and football attract the most interest by far. During the cricket season, BPL and IPL draw the most markets.

Before you start betting — a few practical points

  • Set a budget first. Decide how much you are willing to spend before you start betting. Do not go beyond that amount — betting is a form of entertainment, not a source of income.
  • Understand the format before picking a market. Live markets in T20 move fast; in Test cricket, pitch and weather have a longer-term effect. Bet on the format you know best.
  • Start with one market. Begin with a straightforward market like match winner or toss. As you gain experience, gradually move on to multi bets or in-play markets.
  • In a multi bet, every selection must win. Combining decimal odds of 1.40, 1.50 and 1.90 gives combined odds of 3.99, returning ৳399 on a ৳100 bet — but if even one selection loses, the entire bet is lost.
  • Do not rush in live betting. In-play odds change quickly. Read the match situation and make your decision calmly rather than acting on impulse.
  • Read the rules. Make sure you understand the betting rules before you play. You will find all the details on the terms and conditions page.

Multi bet calculation

Three selections: decimal 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.90 = 3.99 (rounded)

Combined return on a ৳100 bet is ৳399 — only if all three win. If any one loses, the full ৳100 is gone.

Team A / Team B are generic examples — these are illustrative calculations, not actual odds.

Common questions and answers — about cricket betting

T20 matches have the most markets because the format is fast and popular. Separate markets are available for each over, along with live wicket markets and powerplay markets. ODI also offers a good range. Test matches have more innings-based markets, though the number of live markets may be somewhat lower.

In BPL, match winner, toss, top batsman and total runs over/under are the most popular markets. Live in-play markets are also a favourite among bettors — especially in the final overs when the match is tight.

Decimal odds 2.25 means you get back 2.25 times the amount you stake — if you win. Example: a ৳500 bet wins and the total return is ৳1,125 (৳625 profit + ৳500 original stake). If you lose, ৳500 is gone. In fractional format this is 5/4 and in American format it is +125.

When a wicket falls, the batting team's chances of winning drop, so their odds go up and the fielding team's odds come down. A quick wicket during the powerplay in particular can cause a sharp swing in the odds. These changes happen in real time, so you need to stay alert in live betting.

In limited-overs cricket there is no draw — only one of the two teams wins. In football a draw is possible, so there are three possible outcomes. Cricket has far more individual performance markets (top batsman, top bowler, most sixes). Football makes greater use of handicap and Asian line markets.
